The Importance of a Strong Brand Identity

October 24, 2012 by anoadmin Leave a Comment

Your brand distinguishes your small business from its competitors...

A strong brand identity will build your small business' reputation and form consumers opinions about your products and services. This includes visual aspects such as logo design, print materials and color schemes as well as verbal elements like your tag line and marketing material. Your branding efforts will help your company have an establish and professional feel.

A picture is worth a thousand words...

This phrase says it all - the simplicity of your logo will be identified and remembered by your audience, far more than 1,000 words. The most memorable logos and tag lines are coincidentally the most simple. What is your favorite logo? Nike and Target are excellent examples of company's that have successfully identified their brand with their consumers. Experiment with repetition and rhyme  when it comes to text - event a strong image requires repetition to insure your logo stays in people's mind.

Our branding services...

For nearly a decade, our talented graphic designer and art director has been using his expertise in graphic arts to give St. Augustine businesses their own unique visual identities. We assure that every Old City client receives the best in aesthetics and functionality with their brand identity.  We work directly wish our clients to determine your branding needs in order to transform your vision into reality. We create and present to you multiple designs and will make the necessary changes until you are completely satisfied. You will be given the logo in the highest quality format so that you will be able to use your logo for anything from a business card to a billboard to a t-shirt.

Here are a couple samples of our branding work...

In 2010, a local mother and her two daughters decided to start a unique candle company. Each candle in their collection represents a specific wish from love and marriage to health and wealth. The mother-daughter team started on the right foot by coming to us for a professional logo. Based on their vision, we created a butterfly formed from three hearts. We also created a series of slogans for them to choose from & they selected our favorite: "Ignite, Illuminate, Imagine."

When Little Looster C.E.O., Monica Mylet, and her family relocated from Oregon to Florida, she came to us in search of a few local, friendly faces who could help market her product-a booster stool that helps kids with potty training. We helped Monica solidify the design elements of her brand with matching rack cards, business cards and product labels. We created two different double-sided rack cards to serve her marketing needs. We continue to work with Monica in designing and implementing her marketing needs.

Does Your Logo Have Wrinkles? 5 Signs it’s Time for a new Logo

August 2, 2012 by anoadmin Leave a Comment

1. Your logo is not part of the digital age.

If we asked you to email us a copy of your logo, would you be able to do it? Almost all designers whether they're creating websites, brochures, T-shirts, embroidered uniforms, billboards or anything else will need a digital copy of your logo, preferably in the format known as EPS. An EPS file is created using vectors instead of those tiny little squares on your screen called pixels, this way your logo can be expanded or shrunk to any size without getting blurry or distorted.

2. Your logo is black and white.

If your logo didn't make the transition to color along with Dorothy and Toto, it's time for a change. We can help you breathe life into an old logo just by adding some bright, fresh colors!

3. Your logo doesn't match your company name.

Have you changed the name of your company since your logo was first designed? It doesn't have to be a big change, but even something as simple as adding an "Inc." or "& Partners" should be reflected in your logo so that your brand is consistent every where your customers see it.

4. Your logo contains a phone number.

There was a time when it was considered an advantage to have your phone number in your logo. But as times have changed and you're using your logo in more things like your website, mobile apps, brochures, etc. you've probably run into some situations where you don't need the phone number in with your logo. Having the phone number as part of your logo image will also prevent mobile devices from recognizing the phone number for one-touch dialing. We can help you separate the two so your logo will be more versatile for your marketing.

5. Your logo comes in many shapes & sizes.

Do you have multiple versions of your logo on different materials? You might have an old edition on your uniforms, a newer version on your company vehicles and a third variation you use for your advertising. That can be really confusing for customers. Give your business a clean, continuous image by simplifying things down to one logo with one set of color options and one tagline. We can help!

If you need help tweaking your logo, give us a call or shoot us an e-mail:

Establish the look and feel of your company with an eye-catching logo design.

May 12, 2011 by anoadmin Leave a Comment

Your business brand begins with a professionally designed logo. Whether you’re starting a new business or have an established company, it’s never too late to give your company a professional face.

For a limited time, Old City Web Services is offering 10% off the cost of logo development. Sign a contract for logo design between May 12th and May 31st and we will give you 10% ($100) off of the total cost of your logo development.

Back in February we went over the basics of what makes up a logo, but now it’s time to dig a little deeper and find out what separates a great logo from all the rest. To do that, we need to answer each of the following questions:

1. How does the name of your company fit with your logo?

Your company name is a major part of your logo—so how does it look? It is really long or really short? Does it accurately describe your business? You want customers to have an idea of what your business is just by reading your company name. At the same time, you don’t want the company name to be so long that it’s distracting. Striking a balance between the two is key.

2. Is your logo similar to that of your competition?

[fusion_builder_container hundred_percent=”yes” overflow=”visible”][fusion_builder_row][fusion_builder_column type=”1_1″ background_position=”left top” background_color=”” border_size=”” border_color=”” border_style=”solid” spacing=”yes” background_image=”” background_repeat=”no-repeat” padding=”” margin_top=”0px” margin_bottom=”0px” class=”” id=”” animation_type=”” animation_speed=”0.3″ animation_direction=”left” hide_on_mobile=”no” center_content=”no” min_height=”none”]

The idea of a great logo is to stand out against your competition—so do your research and know what colors, icons and other elements are already being used by other businesses in your industry to make sure your logo will be unique and completely original.

3. Who is your company’s target market?

From business professionals and soccer moms to young students and retired seniors, you need to know who your logo should be designed for. Different colors and icons will resonate with different groups, so you want to be sure that your logo is appealing to the right audience for your business.

4. Is the name of your business readable within your company logo?

It’s tempting to get really creative with fonts and shapes for your company name, but above all else you want to be sure that no matter how big or small your logo appears that it’s easy to read your company name.

5. What colors do you want people to associate with your business?

Certain colors evoke specific feelings with people, for example warm tones like browns and deep reds convey a sense of comfort while orange and yellow tones are more about energy and liveliness. So while you may be inclined toward your favorite color, you should also think about how those colors set the tone for your business.

6. How simple is your logo?

At the end of the day, the best advice you can ever get in terms of logo design is to keep it as simple as possible. Simple logos are easy to remember, easy to reproduce (even in embroidery and different print styles) and easy to understand whether they are in full color or black and white.

Turn over a new leaf for your business with a professionally designed logo.

Old City Web Services has been creating custom logos to fit the needs of businesses both small and large for almost a decade. Take a look at our online logo portfolio to see samples of work we’ve done for companies such as Village Academy, Devil’s Elbow and Arizona Custom Knives.

What can a great logo do for your business?

February 24, 2011 by anoadmin Leave a Comment

It’s on your website, business cards, billboard ads, polo shirt, brochure and more—no doubt, your company logo is the face of your business.  Your logo is typically the first thing that makes an impression on your potential customers, which is why it’s so important that you have a professional logo that represents everything your company has to offer.

When it comes to assessing your logo, there are a few important questions you should ask yourself.

  1. Can people tell from your logo what it is that you do?
  2. Does it stand out from other logos in your industry?
  3. Is it easily identified with your company even when your business name isn’t included?
  4. Does it appear the same on my website, business cards and other promotional items?

What are the components of a logo?

There are three major components to every logo. The first is a unique image that is usually identified as an icon or mark. Here are a few examples:

McDonald's Golden Arches Icon University of Florida Gators Logo Macintosh Apple Logo

In one blink you should be able to identify all three organizations above without seeing their company names listed. Your business logo should draw the same response from your customers.

The second aspect of a logo is the company name, which should have a uniform font style and scale to give it a design identity of its own. Consider the company names for the above icons:

McDonald's Logo Title University of Florida Gators Logo Title Macintosh Logo Title

Finally, most logos are rounded out with a slogan that is also used across the board in all marketing campaigns and materials your business uses. The slogan is more interchangeable than the icon and company font, for example McDonald’s has used more than 27 slogans in the U.S. over its 70 year history including its current slogan, “I’m lovin’ it.”

How can you get a great logo?

A team trained in not only design, but in the latest sales, advertising and marketing techniques is best equipped to give your business a professional logo. At Old City Web Services, our team boasts more than 20 years’ experience in all four fields. But you don’t have to take our word for it—check out our online portfolio to see examples of the logo design and print work that we have created for our clients.
